For the most part, our weather stays pretty predictable throughout the year. However as we transition into spring, we can be surprised by really warm weather, or a couple more weeks of chilly weather. If the former happens, you’ll probably be tempted to shut off your heating system for the season and not give it another thought. However, if you have any heating repair needs that require attention, delaying them could be a big mistake!
Ignoring any sort of heater problem can cause it to turn into a much bigger issue, leaving you with a broken down heater next year when you need it, or, depending on the circumstances, a malfunctioning air conditioner as well. But how do you know if you have heater problems that need addressing? Keep reading below to learn some of the symptoms of heating system problems.

Dry air only adds more trouble when temperatures outside of the home are nearly unbearable. Thankfully, you have your home heating system to keep you warm, but can it do anything about the dry air? The answer is…not much. It doesn’t actually add any moisture back into the home and can, in fact, take away from humidity levels a bit.
Dry air leads to dry skin, chapped lips, increased instances of illness, and general discomfort. That’s why many homeowners purchase a separate humidifier to keep the home as comfortable as possible. Looking for some advice on what to purchase or how to care for it? We’re here for you.

If you have a good, strong boiler heating your home, count yourself among the most comfortable people in the area. Boilers are incredibly popular overseas, but many homes in our area are outfitted with older furnaces that simply do not do a sufficient job of heating a home. A boiler delivers hot water through pipes and under floors to quickly heat up a room and the objects in it, making it one of the most effective and efficient means of home heating.
However, that doesn’t mean a boiler is invincible. Boilers are quite durable, and it may be true that they typically do not require much in terms of maintenance. They do break down eventually, though, just like any other system. It’s important that you be able to read the signs, so you’re not stuck with a malfunctioning system when you really need it!

Sometimes, the only way to get better efficiency from a heating system is to replace it. Most furnaces only last about 10-15 years, while boilers can last a few years longer. Before your heater gives out for good, though, you might notice efficiency dropping. It may seem normal that a system drops in performance levels with time, but a well-installed system should be able to keep up about 95% of its original efficiency levels when properly maintained.
Keep your bills low without losing any of the performance you expect from your heater. Follow our tips and you may notice your bills drop as soon as next month!

Thank goodness for garbage disposals. Many of us have lived without them before, and it is certainly a pain. Garbage gets fuller and smellier faster, so you have to take it out more frequently. Washing dishes means a lot of back and forth to the trash can. And you have to clean out drain covers you use to catch food debris…yuck!
As great as the garbage disposal is, though, you may not feel so grateful when it breaks and you’re stuck without the powerful processing you needed. Often, this happens right in the middle of cleaning, when you’re using it, which may lead to a clogged sink. Will you have to call a plumber? Or can you handle it on your own?

You come home from work, greeted by the heat you always expect from your furnace. The kitchen is warm, the bathroom is warm, but when it comes time to go to bed, you make a chilling discovery. There is no heat, or very little heat, making its way into the bedroom.
Before you take out the portable heater or resolve to spend nights with the doors open huddled under plenty of blankets, you should know that this could be a major problem. As long as there are air vents in the room, your heater was designed to heat it, and a lack of air circulation could cause some problems with the unit. So what’s the deal?
