Minneapolis, MN Repiping Services

Copper pipes have been the primary pipe material for the past 60 years or so, and for good reason. Prior to the advent of copper piping, the most common pipe material in use was iron. While iron was long lasting, it also had the tendency to rust and rupture over time. Copper is highly resistant to rust, and most other forms of corrosion, which is why it replaced iron as the pipe material of choice in the 1950s. While copper pipes can last up to a hundred years under ideal circumstances, there are still plenty of ways that they can be damaged or destroyed. If you need to have your pipes replaced, call Vogt Heating, Air Conditioning and Plumbing. We offer a full range of repiping services throughout the Minneapolis area.

The experts at Vogt Heating, Air Conditioning and Plumbing provide repiping services in Minneapolis, MN and the surrounding areas.

What Is Repiping?

Repiping is the process of replacing the pipes in a home. It is typically only done in response to a serious problem with the entire plumbing system, or if the pipe network is very old. Repiping is a pretty long and arduous process, varying a little depending on individual situations. Your plumbing system runs throughout your home, through the walls and floors. That means that those walls and floors need to be opened up to get to the pipes and replace them with new ones. With the right company working for you, though, repiping can be a relatively painless process.

When Repiping Is Necessary

The need for repiping can be caused by a number of different things. One of the biggest ones is simple age. If your house is older than fifty years, even if you have copper plumbing throughout the house, you may still want to have it repiped in order to preempt any issues that could arise in the near future. Another common cause of repiping is widespread corrosion. Copper is resistant to rust, but it is still vulnerable to things like chlorine and formaldehyde particles. These particles can open up leaks in the pipes which, if they become widespread enough, can result in a need for repiping.

Another issue is hard water, which is common in homes across the country. Hard water is water with a higher mineral content than normal. As hard water flows through the pipes in your home, it deposits these minerals on the inner walls of the pipes. The mineral deposits are known as lime scale and can eventually grow large enough that they restrict the flow of water through the pipe. This often results in a need for repiping.
