Aren’t All Toilets the Same?

The modern toilet developed in the 19th century as a way to do away with the chamber pot and the outhouse, both of which leave much to be desired in terms of smell, convenience, and hygiene. The technology continues to evolve, and today’s toilets often have electronic sensors for automatic flushing. One of the most important advancements has been to reduce the amount of water required to flush the waste down the drain.

The current federal standard is 1.6 gallons per flush (gpf). If you have an older toilet, upgrading yours with a new model can cut your water bill significantly. But you may also want to take advantage of the latest low–flush toilets, which have reduced that number to 1.28. Those appliances with the WaterSense label indicate that it meets the EPA’s criteria. They estimate that you could save anywhere from 20% to 60%, which could amount to well over 12,000 gallons per year, depending on the size of your home and household, of course. We can help you find a toilet that works well for your needs.

Common Toilet Plumbing Issues

While the toilet is a relatively simple mechanism, it does have moving parts, and it therefore may stop working as it should at some point. For example, if your toilet makes an odd gurgling sound when flushing, it could indicate an issue with the ventilation pipe, which is required for various parts of your wastewater system because it is not pressurized.

Another possible issue is a broken flapper. The flapper is responsible for letting the water in the tank flow into the toilet. But if it sticks or leaks, then your toilet may be slow to flush or you may hear the sound of water going into the bowl constantly. Neither option is good. We can fix that flapper for you. There are plenty of other things that can go wrong, but we can make such issues disappear with our toilet plumbing repair service.

Should You Replace Your Toilet?

It can be tough to make the call on a toilet. They are obviously sturdy and built to last, but you may want to consider a new one for various reasons. The first is to take advantage of a low–flush system, which can lead to fantastic savings during the course of a year. Another is that your old toilet is simply old and gross, and no amount of cleaning will restore the throne to its former glory. Lastly, if you’re upgrading the rest of your bathroom, then you may want to upgrade your toilet as well, whether for aesthetic or functional reasons. Vogt Heating, Air Conditioning and Plumbing can make sure that your toilet replacement is done properly and with minimal disruption to your day. Give our plumbers a call today for excellent toilet plumbing services.
